Who We Are

The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) was established in 1998 through Act 156 as the lead agency and advocate for Hawaii’s tourism industry, responsible for creating a vision and overseeing tourism from a statewide perspective. This same act also established the Tourism Special Fund – a set percentage of the transient accommodations tax (TAT) collections that is assessed on hotels, vacation rentals and other accommodations. This fund is the revenue source that HTA draws from, for developing, implementing and supporting its tourism programs and other efforts throughout the State.

HTA MISSION:

To strategically manage Hawaii tourism in a sustainable manner consistent with our economic goals, cultural values, preservation of natural resources, community desires and visitor industry needs.

HTA VALUES:

As an organization, and among ourselves and others, we value:
  • Openness and respectfulness.
  • Collaboration and partnership.
  • Our host and multi-ethnic cultures.
  • Social responsibility to our community.
  • Excellence and integrity in who we are and what we do.

HTA VISION STATEMENT:

To be recognized as an exemplary tourism organization, respected by our community, our visitors, the visitor industry and ourselves.
